Gifted assessment for children and teenagers in Perth

A gifted assessment identifies whether a child or teenager may be gifted or advanced for their age. It also considers whether academic extension, enrichment or acceleration might suit.

Who it suits

Children and teenagers who learn very quickly, or who seem under-challenged at school, and whose parents want to understand their abilities.

What is involved

  • Parent or carer feedback consultations.
  • Intellectual assessment (WPPSI-IV or WISC-V, chosen by age).
  • Academic achievement and aptitude measures for reading, writing, spelling and phonological processing.
  • A review of developmental and educational history.
  • A report with recommendations.

Questions about the gifted assessment

What can the results lead to?

The report gives recommendations, and can help you and the school consider options such as academic extension, enrichment or acceleration.

Do we need a GP referral?

No. Parents can contact Psychology House directly. Referrals from GPs, school psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians and other health professionals are also welcome.

Does Medicare cover it?

Psychological and educational assessments are generally not covered by Medicare, even with a GP mental health plan. Some private health insurers cover parts of the process, so check with yours.
